Action medication. Pharmacodynamics Ekovir 800 mg is an antiviral drug, especially effective against herpes simplex viruses (Herpes simplex) and shingles (Varicella zoster). The similarity of the structures of Ekovir and deoxyguanidine allows acyclovir to interact with viral enzymes, which leads to interruption of the reproduction of the virus. After penetration of acyclovir into a cell affected by herpes under the influence of thymidine kinase, which is eliminated by the virus, acyclovir is converted into acyclovir-monophosphate, which is converted into acyclovir-diphosphate by the enzymes of the host cell, and then into the active form of acyclovir triphosphate, which blocks the spread of viral DNA. Selective effect on viral DNA synthesis. Ekovir triphosphate has virtually no effect on the replication of the host cell (human cell) DNA.

Indications

Treatment of viral infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the herpes simplex virus, including primary and recurrent genital herpes.
Suppression (prevention of recurrence) of infections caused by the herpes simplex virus in patients with normal immunity.
Prevention of infections caused by the herpes simplex virus in patients with immunodeficiency.
Treatment of infections caused by the virus Varicella zoster (chickenpox and herpes zoster).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Ekovir 800mg, valacyclovir or to other components of the drug.
