Npecia 5 is the only internal drug approved by the US FDA for the treatment of androgenic alopecia in men. Initially, the drug was intended to treat diseases of the prostate gland and was sold under the brand name Npecia 5 by the pharmaceutical company Merck (Proscar contains finasteride in a dosage of 5 mg). Patients with androgenic alopecia, taking Npecia 5, noticed an interesting side effect – stopping hair loss and new hair growth. After conducting complex clinical trials, Merck released Npecia 5 containing finasteride in a dosage of 1 mg. Npecia 5 approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss since 1997.

How does finasteride work

Npecia 5 is a synthetic antiandrogen that suppresses the production of 5-alpha reductase type II – one of two enzymes that convert free testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is directly related to the process of hair loss in men and women. In the presence of the genetic sensitivity of follicles to DHT, alopecia develops.

Npecia 5 is effective throughout the balding area: at the crown, in the middle area of ​​the head, at the front line of the hair. Best results are seen at the crown and in the middle area.
